The JR-1 is the mid-level division that bridges the learning curve between the young, Kid-Kart class and the older JR-2 class.

Considered as both the national and international standard for this age group, the Jr-1 class is for youngsters age 8 through 11 and follows rules and regulations set by the International Karting Federation sanctioning body. In this class, you will find first time drivers as well as seasoned veterans who have moved up from the Kid Kart class all competing together. With a little more power and speed than Kid Karts, Jr-1 is one of the most populated, well attended, competitive and exciting classes of the day. The Jr-1 class is divided into a lower (restricted) and upper (experienced) division depending on the experience and speed of the driver.

JR-1 chassis specifications: A cadet size kart with a 240lb. weight minimum with the driver, after each race.

JR-1 engine specifications: A Briggs and Stratton Racing Local Option 206 (LO206) 4 cycle engine package is mounted to the frame. This engine is extremely reliable and economical to purchase and minimum attention is needed during the racing season. This engine is ready to race right from the box. It features a factory sealed bottom end to ensure consistency between engines, fuel is 85 octane pump gas, repair parts are available online from the factory as well as local kart dealers and is designed and hand-built in the United States.

Tires: Regardless of division, again to keep costs low, only 4 sets of tires are allowed all season. All racers use the same, spec tire: 4.5 /10 - 5 MG Red R60 racing slicks front and rear. The same set of tires must be used for all qualifying and race events and will be marked accordingly for assuring legality.

JR-1 technical details: Additional restrictions apply to the JR1 Cadet division. For example, the gearing is the same for both divisions (gears are specified for each track), but the "restricted" division will run the B&S "Green" carb slide. Both divisions may run a #219 chain or a 20mm belt drive.

Additional rules and regulations can also be found on the IKF website, but the class representative for Jr-1 is Tim Trostel at timjr@amsprink.com
