The Kid Kart class, ages 5 - 7, provides the entry point into Karting for many of the children getting into the sport.

This class is designed for beginning drivers ages 5 through 7 years old, and drive “Kid Karts”, which are karts designed specifically for kids of this age/size. Always a crowd pleaser, the Kid Kart class is fun, educational and trophies are awarded to the entire field!

Class Specifications:

Generally, the kart and engine packages tend to be more simple than the older classes, allowing the parents to spend more time working on their child’s skills and techniques, rather than on their karts and engines. Our primary mission for this class is for drivers to mature and gain valuable seat-time through driving and racing. And with that, this class is the most "spec'd" class so that every participant is entirely equal in terms of equipment - leaving only driver development as the key differentiator in results.

Karts: There are many different manufacturers of Kid Karts in the market, and most kids use the same kart chassis for their entire time in the Kid Kart class.

Engines: In keeping with our economical, reliable and 'drivers-first' objectives, we use the Honda GHX50. This engine is "sealed", meaning only very limited portions can be changed or adjusted by the parents/builders, resulting in engines producing the same power so the race can be decided primarily by driver skill. Additional benefits of a sealed engine package are a reduced cost, improved longevity and a leveling of the playing field. This engine is extremely reliable and economical to purchase with little to no attention needed during the racing season. This engine is ready to race right from the box.

Weight Specification: The combined weight of the kart with the driver, engine, and all of their equipment must be at least 150 lbs total after a race.

Tire Specification: All Kid Karts and Junior 1 karts use the same spec tire (both size and model), again to keep costs low. All racers use the same, spec tire: 4.5 /10 - 5 MG Red R60 racing slicks front and rear. The same set of tires must be used for all qualifying and race events and will be marked accordingly for assuring legality. Kid Karts are allowed only to use 1 set during the year (they often last more than 2 full years).

Additional rules and regulations can also be found on the IKF website, but the class representative for Kid Karts is Tim Trostel at timjr@amsprink.com
